Concord Heart Support Group offers support and social activities for angina sufferers and people who have had heart attacks or cardiac surgery and their relatives and/or carers and is affiliated to the British Heart Foundation.
The Group has been succesful in bidding for a grant from the Big Lottery, Awards for all Scheme, which is to be used to fund the Healthy Heart Project, a scheme that hopes to improve the lives of people who are more at risk of coronary heart disease (CHD), a disease that kills 1 in 4 people.
We are looking for people whose parents suffer with CHD as they may have a potential genetic risk factor of the disease, and the project hopes to reduce any modifiable risk factors associated with the condition.
Participants on the scheme will receive FREE gym membership for 12 weeks at Concord Sports Centre with access to the gym, classes and pool. They will be entitled to attend the health seminars being delivered each month by health professionals, and can take part in any supported group functions. As a unique intervention, researchers from Sheffield Hallam University are involved in the project too.
